The environment protection coalition Za Da Ostane Priroda v Bulgaria (for the nature of Bulgaria) examined the previously discussed excavation works that Vitosha Ski undertook in Vitosha Mountain to clear space for a ski track. More than 100 rocks were destroyed, investor.bg reported.
Vitosha Ski had permission to only cut parts of 19 rocks that might prove dangerous to tourists, coalition representatives said. Another violation is the use of heavy machinery that contradicts Vitosha natural park management plans.
Nature preservation organizations plan to send a grievance to the European Commission. They will target violations in a NATURA 2000 site, as well as the lack of adequate reaction from national institutions.
Several other institutions, among which the state forestry agency, the Sofia regional forestry inspectorate and representatives of Vitosha park took part in the inspection.
