Bulgaria’s tourism expects no major collapse due to financial crisis
from 15.10.2008 10:55       Author - Tourist Media
The financial crisis has already affected the vacation habits of many people. A lot of west Europeans are unwilling to spend on vacations, which in turn affects negatively the tourism sector, Pari newspaper reported.

Bulgarian tourism will not suffer serious harm, sector representatives believe. It is still early to make predictions about the upcoming summer season, executive manager of Sunny Beach resort Malina Stratieva said. Realistic predictions will be possible after European tourism fairs start in November.

One of the important events will be the London tourism fair. Bulgaria will get to know if the current decrease in the number of British tourists is to persist in 2009.

Chairperson of the Bourgas regional tourism association Sonia Eneva said that the number of tourists from EU countries is expected to decrease.

Most tourism sector representatives believe that the crisis will affect Bulgaria indirectly.

The financial crisis harmed the most the middle class. Tourists visiting Bulgaria are less wealthy and have not suffered great harm.

Bulgarian hotel owners fear higher interest rates of bank loans. In case interest rates increase, many owners will be unable to pay their debts and will have to keep hotels closed.
