The US embassy in Sofia issued on September 30 a warning concerning striptease clubs in Bulgaria's capital Sofia. The warning is available at its site and has been quoted in several US media, among which Washington Times.
Clubs have been labeled dangerous because of the two bombings and a shooting that took place there in August and September 2008. People were seriously injured in all three cases and local authorities suspect the involvement of criminal groups.
The embassy advises US citizens to refrain from visiting such clubs.
The report notes that security in Bulgaria has improved since the country's EU accession and conditions for tourism and business travel have improved. Yet, US citizens are to refrain from questionable entertainment spots like Sofia's gentlemen clubs.
